South African music took centre stage in Paris as Tyla officially kicked off her A*POP World Tour, with amapiano DJ and producer Royal MusiQ joining her for the European leg.
The Grammy-winning star opened her 34-date global tour on Monday, October 12, 2026, at Zénith Paris–La Villette, marking the beginning of another major international chapter in her career.
Tyla gave fans a taste of the opening night by sharing footage from her performance, where she appeared in bright neon colours that matched the visual world surrounding her APOP* era.
In one of the clips, the Johannesburg-born singer performs “That Girl,” a track from her second album, as the packed Paris venue sings and dances along.
For South African fans watching from home, however, Tyla was not the only familiar name representing the country on the Paris stage.
Royal MusiQ joins Tyla in Europe
South African amapiano DJ and producer Royal MusiQ joined Tyla as a special guest and opening act for the European dates of the tour.
Following the Paris performance, Royal MusiQ shared his own stage moment on social media and thanked Tyla for giving him the opportunity to be part of the tour.
“Paris got the first chapter. Had to leave my mark,” he wrote, before thanking Tyla and adding: “A*POP is in motion. Europe, I like where this is going.”
His inclusion adds another South African element to a tour already built around Tyla's blend of global pop and sounds rooted in amapiano.
Royal MusiQ has established himself within South Africa's amapiano scene as a DJ and producer, and the European run now gives him an opportunity to perform for audiences beyond his home market.
Why the Paris moment matters for South Africa
The Tyla Paris tour kickoff is bigger than another overseas concert for many South African music fans.
Tyla's international success has increasingly placed South African music, dance and style in front of mainstream global audiences. Her breakthrough hit “Water” helped push amapiano-influenced sounds and choreography further into international pop culture, while her subsequent releases have continued to build on that foundation.
Now, a South African superstar is headlining her own global tour while bringing another homegrown artist along for part of the journey.
That makes the Royal MusiQ Tyla pairing particularly significant.
Instead of South African talent appearing only as guests at isolated international festivals, the Paris show demonstrates how artists from the country are increasingly becoming part of the touring infrastructure of global pop.
The tour itself supports Tyla's sophomore album, APOP*, released in July 2026. It is scheduled to travel through Europe before continuing to North America and eventually Africa.
After opening in Paris, the European leg moves through cities including Amsterdam, London, Glasgow, Manchester, Brussels, Düsseldorf, Berlin and Stockholm.
For followers of South Africa music news, seeing Tyla launch a major international tour in Paris while Royal MusiQ warms up the same crowd offers plenty to celebrate.
It is a home-country success story playing out thousands of kilometres away, with South African pop and amapiano sharing the international stage.
