Asake and Seun Kuti are officially in the 2027 Grammy conversation, and Nigerian music fans are already watching closely to see whether their submitted works will make the final nominations.

The two Nigerian stars have put forward a combined six works for consideration at the 69th Grammy Awards, with both looking towards the Best African Music Performance category.

But before the predictions get too loud, there is an important distinction: a Grammy submission is not the same thing as a Grammy nomination.

The songs and projects have been entered for consideration. Recording Academy voting members must still decide which eligible entries become official nominees.

What Asake submitted for the 2027 Grammys

Asake has submitted four works across several categories.

His album M$NEY has been entered for consideration for Album of the Year and Best Global Music Album.

“Gratitude” has an even wider reach, with submissions for Record of the Year, Song of the Year and Best African Music Performance.

His Wizkid collaboration “Jogodo” is also submitted for Best African Music Performance, putting two Asake records into consideration in the category.

Meanwhile, “Worship,” featuring DJ Snake, has been submitted for Best Dance Pop Recording.

The Asake Grammy 2027 conversation is particularly interesting because the singer has been here before. He previously received Grammy nominations for “Amapiano,” his collaboration with Olamide, and “MMS,” featuring Wizkid, although he is still searching for his first win.

Seun Kuti joins the race

Afrobeat star Seun Kuti has two songs submitted for Best African Music Performance: “Na Dem” and “Problems.”

For Seun, Grammy attention is also familiar territory.

The son of Afrobeat pioneer Fela Anikulapo-Kuti previously earned Grammy recognition with Egypt 80, making his latest submissions another opportunity to take his politically charged Afrobeat sound onto the international awards stage.

The potential overlap between Asake and Seun is also giving fans something to discuss.

One represents a generation of Nigerian pop that has pushed Afrobeats and street-pop into the global mainstream, while the other continues the traditional Afrobeat sound associated with the Kuti musical legacy.

Submission does not mean nomination

This is where the Grammy process matters.

Artists, labels and other eligible parties submit recordings for consideration. Those entries are reviewed for eligibility and category placement before Recording Academy voting members select the nominees.

For the 2027 awards, first-round voting runs from October 12 to October 22, 2026.

The official nominations are expected to be announced on November 16. Only after that announcement would it be accurate to describe Asake or Seun Kuti as 2027 Grammy nominees based on these entries.

The awards ceremony itself is scheduled for February 7, 2027, in Los Angeles.

Nigerian fans are watching

The submissions have already generated discussion across Nigerian entertainment platforms and social media, with attention particularly focused on the Best African Music Performance category.

That interest is understandable. Grammy recognition has increasingly become part of the conversation surrounding the international growth of Nigerian music, and each awards cycle gives fans another opportunity to debate which artists and sounds could receive global recognition.

Still, predictions remain just that - predictions.

For now, the biggest Nigerian music news is that Asake and Seun Kuti have successfully entered the conversation. The next important date is November 16, when fans will finally find out whether any of those submissions have turned into nominations.
